Detail on my @breese_forge knives - hard to photograph, gorgeous in person!

I'm now the proud owner of TWO gorgeous knives from @breese_forge (pictured here on top of my cutting board from @plumcreekdesign). This small collection took me more than 2 years to put together, even with them both giving me a nice discount for doing a good job as our market manager :) They're each beautifully made, perfect for a variety of kitchen work, and I'm not going to need to replace them for decades, if ever. After a lifetime of "cheap and frequently broken" being the best I could afford, buying artisan quality once or twice a year is slowly transforming the way I cook. The way I live. As we get closer to the holiday season, check out your local farmers market. Choose one or two things that are properly made, locally made from local artists, and give the gift of THINGS THAT LAST to the people who deserve it. (Including yourself.)

I made and canned another batch of my September salsa today: lightly-charred tomatoes from @jackmanvineyards, onions, garlic from @hidden_thistle_farm, and a mix of peppers from @perrycityorchard to give it just a little bite. This year I started using @littletreeorchards apple cider vinegar in my salsas and I love it! Less of that acid sharpness you get with white vinegar but still full of flavor. And my kitchen smells like roasting vegetables which is perfect on a drizzly fall day🧄🍅🧅🫑🌶️

A little cat's belly that's softer than a baby rabbit and is also 1000% a trap? Ha ha, I'm in danger.

My son and I got vaccinated on Tuesday (flu & COVID for both of us + shingles for me). While we were recovering on the couch he asked me to paint him an alligator sleeping on a pile of blue and orange pillows. How could I say no? Acrylic on canvas board, 8" square. 9/11/25

I'm roasting vegetables in my oven for what I'm starting to think of as my @ithacafarmersmarket September Salsa: tomatillos from @jaspermeadowsfarm, peppers from @stickandstonefarm and @perrycityorchard, zebra tomatoes from @jackmanvineyards, onions from @hidden_thistle_farm, garlic from a few different vendors (I think these are mainly from @alwaysgrowingfarm)... In other news, my house smells amazing and farmers markets are the best!

August 28, 2020: My video game tie-in novella is now out! No Way Home was written as a companion to the Wasteland 3 video game by inXile Entertainment, and explores a beloved main character’s adventures between W2 and W3. (Available as part of the Digital Deluxe Version of the game through Steam.)
